At the beginning of the twentieth century, our grandfather, Bartholomew Gerlotto, in addition to to his cattle-breeding business, started to plant his first vines at our farm. During the sixties, it was our father, Mario Gerlotto, who succeeded in expanding the business by purchasing several other acres of land, and by starting to vinify our grapes. He also added cultivating hazelnut trees to the regular activities of the farm.
In 2001, we, the third generation of Gerlotto family, after building the first section of the new cellar, came eventually to the important decision of bottling part of our wine production and selling the top-quality selection of our wines: D.O.C.G. or D.O.C. Barolo, Nebbiolo d’Alba, Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba, Barbera d’Alba superiore, Langhe Arneis and recently the Méthode Champenoise and Nebbiolo to the local market (private customers, restaurants and retail).
At the same time, we began to develop and expand our hazelnut farming, which has led us to producing whole or ground roasted hazelnuts, hazelnut paste, and “Nocciociock” (hazelnut + cocoa) cream spread. Today our farm cultivates and runs 15 hectares of vineyard and 11 hectares of hazelnut trees.
The official name of our winery is “Azienda Agricola Fratelli Gerlotto di Paolo e Davide Gerlotto”: formally, Gerlotto Winery and is a “Società semplice agricola” , translated into English, a classic farm.
